Are You A Disney Guest or Tourist?

The Web dictionary defines a guest as a visitor to whom hospitality is extended. Did you catch those last few words. A visitor who is basically given hospitality. Now, let’s look at the word tourist. The web defines this word as someone who travels for pleasure. This gives me the mental picture of someone who is always on the move and seeking self gratification. Society often uses guest and tourist interchangeably. After closely looking at these two words, I find they are very different.

This may sound harsh, but most first time visitors to Walt Disney Word have the tourist mentality. What is a tourist mentality you ask? Well, it is trying to do everything and see everything while having a good time. That usually leads to exhaustion, anger, and frustration. Returning trips to Disney World are probably out of the question. Walt Disney World Resort is a very big place covering 30,000 acres, so seeing and doing everything in one week trip is IMPOSSIBLE.

Walt Disney World is not like any other place you will ever visit. The parking lot is very well organized so that all the parking spaces are used efficiently. Disney transportation services are monitored so that guests do not wait longer than necessary. Cast members are instructed that visitors are to be treated as guests. In case you didn’t know, Disney refers to their workers as cast members and not employees. From the street sweepers to show performers, they all are equally important in maintaining the entertainment appearance and atmosphere of Walt Disney World.

I have been to several other amusement parks. The rides are fast, wild and outrageous. I often find myself getting caught up in the tourist mentality of trying to ride all the rides I can, while almost running to the next roller coaster. My eyes catching a glimpse of trash left on the ground by other park visitors. I think to myself this would never happen in Disney World or Disneyland.

The bottom line is that Disney World only delivers first rate entertainment and safety to all their guest. For the cost and value there is no better place to spend with your family. After all, that was Walt Disney dream. If you you want to know more about Walt Disney World from a practical point of view where us average people save time and money.
